About Our Program

Here at B-G, we start Spanish in 7th grade.  Students' first year of Spanish is an introductory year, teaching basic vocabulary, simple sentence structure and simple grammar.  We cover the following topics in 7th grade:

  • Colors
  • Numbers 0-30
  • Greetings
  • Personal adjectives
  • Family
  • School
  • Activities and sports
  • Weather and nature
  • Community and travel
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Body parts and health

In 8th grade, we cover many of the same topics and some new ones, including Time and Daily Routine.  While covering the same topics, we introduce more vocabulary and more complex sentence structure and grammar.

At each level of Spanish, we cover four basic language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.  Students also learn about the culture of various Spanish-speaking countries, including festivals, traditions, holidays and more!

At the end of the 8th grade year, students take the 8th grade Proficiency Exam.  See the next page for more information on that exam.
